Welcome to Ventura County's Great Cloth Diaper Event

The Ventura County Great Cloth Diaper Change 2016!

There is still time to pre-register for this years Great Cloth Diaper Change (GCDC) on Saturday April 23rd! You can participate in GCDC if you use cloth diapers full time, part time or have never used them at all! Encourage a friend that is new to cloth to join you, and you will both be entered to win a baby/doll diaper set! See the Ventura County Real Diaper Circle Public Facebook Page for an easy to share graphic to help you recruit friends! The rules have changed a bit this year to allow an even more inclusive event - everyone counts! There is no height restriction and all cloth diapers may be used as well as cloth trainers!

LuluDew Organic Diaper Service will be providing loaner diapers for all of our new to cloth participants! So encourage your new to cloth friends to pre-register so we have one available for them!

So what is the Great Cloth Diaper change all about? GCDC is an annual, international event that started in 2011. It was born out of the need to have a fun event to create support for cloth diaper users, build community and advocacy and to help raise funds for the Real Diaper Association. Participants gather across the globe to change their babies into a 100% reusable cloth diaper or cloth trainer in an attempt to break the World Record for the most cloth diapers changed in one day! For more information about the benefits of cloth diapers please see the Real Diaper Association's website.

Thanks to The Real Diaper Circle for Ventura County,  and it's members for making this event happen and to Horizon Hills for hosting!

The deets:

This year the rules have changed to allow for a more inclusive event!  Participants do not have to be 18 to change a baby (although the party responsible for changing the diaper should be old enough and responsible enough to remain in the specified change area for up to 30 minutes). There is no longer a height restriction for babies and children, and they can be changed into any cloth diaper or cloth trainer, allowing for taller toddlers and special needs children to be included!

Only one child per participant is allowed in the official change zone. If you have more than one child in diapers or trainers, please bring another adult to change the other child! If you need to bring siblings that are not participating, you can still participate! We currently have a preschool teacher with a degree in early childhood education and 15 years experience working with kids lined up to watch siblings of participants from 10:30-11:30. Please note, once you have entered the official change zone, you may not leave (and still be counted) until the official change has been completed. Please use the restroom before entering and make sure you have all your diapering supplies with you.

When you arrive, you will check in, sign our photo release waiver, drop off any diaper donations, receive your participant prize drawing tickets, and leave the Real Diaper Association suggested donation of $1 or more at the registration table.

What's the current recordCongratulations and thank you to all past Great Cloth Diaper Change participants and supporters!! Ventura County's participation has steadily grown each year and we hope to see even more participants this year! Our 2012 event included 43 participant pairs (adult and baby pair) and grew to 66 participant pairs in 2013! In 2014 we had 69 participant pairs qualify towards the world record! In  2015 we had 57 participant pairs! I am very happy with our event attendance. Families outgrow diapers every year yet our community's enthusiasm continues to steadily grow! Thank you!

"2014: This year marked the first time we had qualifying events on 6 different continents while breaking the world record yet again. This time, 18 countries qualified with 188 events and 8,459 babies changed. 3 more countries and 82 other cities participated with non-qualifying events. ALL succeeded with raising awareness about cloth diapers in their communities!"
